Combining Sets

886 words·5 mins·

This channel’s intentions are to provide insight on how to combine sets and if you can fit in an arena weapon or not.

What counts as how many set pieces? In total, you can fit 12 pieces actively on your gear and 2 extra on the inactive backbar.

These 12 pieces include: 7 body pieces (chest, hands, waist, legs, feet + [head, shoulders which are mostly used for monster sets]) 3 jewels (necklace, ring, ring) 2 weapons (either 2 one handed weapons or 1 two handed weapons)

  • 2 backbar weapons

Which sets need to be active at all times and which sets can be 1 barred? (These are the sets that are recommended in this discord.)

Active at all times:

  • Spell Power Cure (can be 1-barred on the resto staff, but not recommended)
  • Jorvuld’s Guidance (could technically be 1-barred, but only used with RO, so therefore bodied instead)
  • Way of Martial Knowledge (can be 1-barred, but that will lower your uptimes a bit if not handled well)

1-barrable:

  • Pillager’s Profit
  • Roaring Opportunist
  • Vestment of Olorime
  • Z’en’s Redress
  • Master Architect
  • Saxhleel Champion
  • Powerful Assault

How to combine these sets effectively and make sure to have the 5 piece bonus active when it matters? This question will be illustrated with a few examples

Example 1: (2 sets that need to be active at all times + monster set) In this example you want both sets to always have their 5 piece bonus active. Therefore you want to use 2 staves of the same set, which makes the 5 piece bonus active regardless of which skillbar you’re on. (For example this build with Symphony of Blades + Spell Power Cure + Way of Martial Knowledge) https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/971054117910884392/1108350679317225562/image.png

Example 2: (1 set that needs to be active at all times + 1 set that is 1 barrable + monster set) In this example you have space for an arena staff, because the second set does not need to be active at all times. Make sure to have the proc condition that the second set will be activated by on that skillbar. (2 examples for this category: (1: this build with Symphony of Blades + Spell Power Cure + Pillager’s Profit + Grand Rejuvenation, used as the standard Courage healer build in trials) (2: this build with Symphony of Blades + Spell Power Cure + Master Architect + Crushing Wall, used as hybrid heal/dd in dungeons) https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/971054117910884392/1108352216680628254/image.png https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/971054117910884392/1108352794823499847/unknown.png

Example 3: (Jorvuld’s Guidance + Roaring Opportunist) In theory, both these sets can be 1 barred, however you want to use the combined effect of these sets to boost your Major Slayer procs to 16.8 seconds. Therefore you have to choose one of the sets to be active at all time and having the other set 1 barred. In this case, Jorvuld’s Guidance adds some support to both bars, while Roaring Opportunist does nothing except for those Major Slayer procs. Again there is room for an arena staff. (For example this build with 1pc Magma Incarnate + Spaulder of Ruin + Jorvuld’s Guidance + Roaring Opportunist + Grand Rejuvenation, used as the standard RoJo healer build in trials) https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/971054117910884392/1108353527081865266/image.png

Example 4: (vBRP resto + 1 set that needs to be active at all times + 1 set that is 1 barrable + monster set) Make sure to use a set that can be 1 barred, as the Mender’s Ward makes tomb healing much easier. Troll king is a nice addition, but can be swapped out. (For example this build with Troll King + Spell Power Cure + Master Architect + Mender’s Ward, used as vSS HM Lokkestiiz tomb healer) https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/971054117910884392/1108355089883734016/image.png

Example 5: (2 sets that can be 1 barred) In this case we have no set synergy and both can be used on 1 bar, therefore we can drop the arena staff and use a mythic item instead. This will require a little more micromanaging of both your sets, but should yield better results from the mythic item. This option also frees up one extra slot in which you can either put a 1 piece Trainee for some health, or an extra piece of one of your sets, so you can have the 4 piece always active. (here I chose the 4pc PP frontbar option) (For example this build with Nazaray + Spell Power Cure + Pillager’s Profit + Pearls of Ehlnofey, used as a more advanced Courage healer build in trials) https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/971054117910884392/1108356465556738119/image.png

Are arena staves important? The most used arena staves by healers are:

  • Grand Rejuvenation (vDSA resto)
  • Mender’s Ward (vBRP resto)
  • Crushing Wall (vMA destro)
  • Desructive Impact (vDSA ice) Check out arena-weapons to find their uses.

From these 4 staves, only the Mender’s Ward is important to use in specific situations (vSS tomb healing). The others are nice to have, but not mandatory. For example the Grand Rejuvenation set offers some sustain to the group, but it is not as significant. The destro staves add some dps, but again not really significant. Improving your set uptimes is gonna yield better results than adding an arena staff.

Therefore don’t stress about not being able to bring a vDSA resto staff if your setup is needs both 5 piece sets to be active at all times. It is simply not as important as those sets and should therefore just be ignored in that case.
