Beginner Sets

1663 words·8 mins·

Majority of crafter/overland sets are focused on gaining stats yourself - and lately we got quite a few interesting sets there! Everything listed here will be from PvE perspective. For PvP advice go to <#876079269535678544> and poke Icyfire.

While it is fine to use this gear until you farm commonly used support sets, it is not advised to use them for anything more complex then normal difficulty content or at most vanilla veteran 4 man. More difficult content naturally requires more dps, and having a proper support setup ensures that you’re contributing to it with your buffs from sets and skills, as base healing you do with your skills in any set is enough to successfully keep the group alive.

However, everything listed here is an advice, not a guide - so if you feel like experimenting and using some other setups for the fun of it or levelling - go wild emoji

Craftable Stat Sets

Law of Julianos - old classic suitable for starter level DPS, levelling and healing. Doesn’t offer anything to group but gives you nice crit and spell/weapon damage bonus.

Naga Shaman - technically a stat set as it gives you a nice healing bonus. Useless for DPS spec, and in general for Templars and Nightblades because of Minor Mending gained from class bonuses. Sweet for DKs and Sorcs, as their shields are part of group utility and will promote the use of those skills.

Order’s Wrath - relatively new and nice set, similar in use to Julianos. Suitable for both healer and DPS specs.

Claw of the Forest Wraith, Innate Axiom, Mechanical Acuity, Read Eagle’s Fury, New Moon Acolyte - All those are DPS-oriented sets, with a drawback of applying to only part of skills, which makes them a poor choice for a healer, as you want to mix weapon skills with class utility, and some other no-class skills from guilds or PvP. However any of those is an excellent second choice for levelling as DPS or farming as DPS.

Kagrenac’s Hope - quite outdated but still possible to use option for newbie healers. Gives decent stats and allows you to faster revive your teammates.

Craftable Sustain Sets

Here we have a massive choice of very sweet sets. While you’re low level sustain might be hard due to lack of CP and correct setup, and not knowing about some game aspects. Therefor, I recommend using one of the next sets to help you with your journey!

Armor of the Seducer - a classic of craftable sustain sets.

Chimera’s Rebuke - nice sustain set for you and your group. However beware of getting frequent Heavy-attacking as a habit when not using this set, it will not be positive for your future gameplay.

Daring Corsair - offers a significant cost reduction on weapon skills, which can promote using restoration staff and destruction staff abilities and not just relying on class healing + sweet minor heroism for more support or offensive Ultimates!

Eyes of Mara - better stats but worse utility than Daring Corsair, see above.

Hist Whisperer - a little gem among crafted sets which might push you to master the weaving. The better you do it the better sustain you get!

Magnus’ Gift - another old set, similar to Eyes of Mara in functionality

Old Growth Brewer - another new little gem. Promotes a good habit of using potions on cooldown!

Wretched Vitality - and last but probably one of the best - gives you sustain for casting Buffs or Debuffs and promotes good support mentality.

Overland Sets

There are not so many decent overland sets, so we’re not gonna categorize them.

Phoenix Moth Theurge - probably the best support option from all overland suitable for newbies. Drawback - drops as medium armor, so you would need to get staves or wear 2 medium pieces + jewelry, which also needs to be re-traited. Not a great set in a long run for veteran content, especially trials for the reason that both granted buffs are normally present in raids from other more common and reliable sources (staple tank set Yolnakhriin provides Minor Courage and pretty much all dps builds have Barbed Trap among skills as a very strong DoT and a source of Minor Force). Another downside of it it will proc on actual healing and not on overhealing, so uptime will be less than ideal. However it is totally fine to use it for pugging normal content and veteran vanilla dungeons!

Back-Alley Gourmand - not a support but a decent stat-set, suitable for both damage and healing. Drops as light armor so not retrait needed!

Mother’s Sorrow - great starter DPS set, known for a while so might be expensive to buy, better to try and get drops yourself. Light armor, no retrait needed.

Trinimac’s Valor - provides a bit of extra damage and healing on shield casts. Not great as you should already have enough healing with your skills but i’ll list it anyways, can be interesting with Fragmented Shield, Empowered Ward or Bone Surge. We do not recommend it as first overland choice as there are better options.

Winter’s Respite - very popular newbie set for unknown to us reasons emoji Not great and not needed at all, because all it does is just healing comparable to one healing over time ability casted by you. We do not recommend it as there are better options, but if you really want you can use it for normal content.

Beginner Monster Sets

We will offer some vanilla sets here as a temporary option on the way towards the good ones!

Nightflame - Drops from Elden Hollow II on veteran difficulty. Heals often and for a lot. Not very useful for strong groups but can be nice for pug progs.

Sentinel of Rkugamz - Drops from Darkshade Caverns I and is a weaker version of meta sustain set Symphony of Blades. Provides some healing and some sustain for the group. A very decent starter option.

Troll King - Drops from Blessed Crusible on veteran difficulty. Heals for less than Nightflame but bypasses some healing debuffs (in Cloudrest for example).

Path From Crafted To Staple Setup

So, you decided on your beginner sets, got them from guild or friends - but whats next?

First of all, look at main-sets to see what is actually used by good groups right now, look where people get those sets, and start filling out your stickerbook for the future. If you happen to be in a dungeon which drops a good support sets from the list, try to get your hands on as many pieces as you can!

We definitely recommend collecting Spell Power Cure (dungeon drop), Powerful Assault (Imperial City/guild stores), Martial Knowledge (overland/guild stores) and Jorvulds Guidance (dungeon drop) pieces as soon as possible! Spell Power Cure can also be obtained from the chest at the start of the dungeon opened for Key Fragments dropped in Imperial City, which are also buyable from guild stores. Imperial City DLC is free and available for everyone with a base game. If you also will go do normal trials, make sure to grab some Pillager’s Profit or Saxhleel’s Champion pieces - non perfected versions are as good as perfected.

Whats stickerbook? https://eso-hub.com/en/guides/sticker-book-guide

As long as you have an item in your stickerbook, you will be able to reconstruct it in any trait and quality (assuming you learned that trait) using Transmutation station of your friends, social or trading guild, or in worst case travelling to Clockwork City.

Make sure to start learning traits as soon as possible to make your life easier in the future. You can check the list of useful for healing traits in enchants-and-traits .You can do that on any crafting station. More information here https://eso-hub.com/en/guides/trait-research-guide

If you have access to Antiquity system, keep an eye on leads for Spaulder of Ruin, Pearls of Elhnofey, Ring of WIld Hunt and Oakensoul Ring.

Few Gearing Examples

Mind that examples listed below are a mere suggestions and a personal opinion of author, not a strict guide. Adjust to your own needs accordingly.

Powerlevelling from 1 to 50 with a friend: Julianos + Seducer or Julianos + Order’s Wrath, all training, good stats, absolutely passive.

Slow levelling from 1 to 50 while doing overland: Julianos + Order’s Wrath or Julianos + Mechanical Acuity, all divines, good stats, damage-oriented, so you don’t struggle as much with overland and quest content solo or in group.

I want to learn weaving: any set + Hist Whisperer. Adjust traits depending on what content you’re planning to do. Pretty useless for powerlevelling on mob trashpacks but might be nice for practice on big fat targets or long encounters.

I am forgetting to use potions: any set + Old Growth Brewer. Adjust traits to yourself, suitable for every type of content.

I want to run a healer/dps hybrid for normal dungeons: Julianos + Order’s Wrath or Julianos + Back alley Gourmand or Order’s Wrath + Back Alley Gourmand, or any of those with Mother’s Sorrow - either works, all divines, thief mundus.

I want to offer offensive support for normal dungeons/trials and I’m lvl 50+: Daring Corsair + Phoenix Moth, all divines - Phoenix Moth offers group buffs, Corsair offers high ultigen so you can use more Aggressive Horns.

I want to offer balanced support to group in normal dungeons/trials and i’m lvl 50+: Chimera’s Rebuke + Phoenix Moth - you offer offensive buffs and sustain.

I want to balance my playstyle to give people buffs regularly: Wretched Vitality + any set, your sustain will depend on how well you juggle buffs and debuffs but even with half decent job on that you’ll already be good!
